FAQs
Not sure what to expect? Here are answers to the questions I’m asked most often.
What happens at my first appointment?
1
At your first appointment, I will ask you a series of questions to take a detailed history of your symptoms, medical history and any concerns you may have.
If you are happy to proceed, I will carry out a physical examination which may include assessing your posture, spine, hips, pelvis and thorax. If your symptoms require an internal assessment — which may include a vaginal examination or an anorectal exam — I will explain fully what this involves and will only continue if you are comfortable. We do not use a speculum during the vaginal examination.
Can I bring my baby to my appointment?
2
You are welcome to bring your baby to your appointment. Please be aware that there are stairs to the clinic room and no lift is available. There is limited space for a buggy at the bottom so would advise bringing your baby in their car seat.
If your baby is at an age where they are crawling or very mobile, we kindly ask that you make arrangements so you can make the most of your appointment time. It is not appropriate to bring older children to a pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment.
No. You can book directly online without a GP referral.

Do I need a referral from a GP?
New assessments and postnatal check-up appointments are one hour (60 minutes). Follow-up appointments and pelvic girdle pain appointments are 45 minutes. These are a guide — some sessions may vary slightly depending on your individual needs.

How long is my appointment?
The clinic is at the Osteopathic Care Clinic, Douglas Medical Centre, Brown House, Douglas East, Cork, T12A3PC. Please note there are stairs to the clinic and no lift is available.
